Put your journal in a place where you will be able to see it.

I like to have mine sitting on my desk in its own spot. Maybe by your bed or beside your favourite chair in your lounge. Anywhere you think it might be more visible. Putting it away may mean that your beautiful journal will be forgotten about and we wouldn’t want that.

DO NOT feel bad about not filling in your journal every single day.

In fact, it is better to fill in your journal once or twice a week.  Never feel bad about missing days or weeks.  Always focus on positive, the fact you are filling it in is a good thing!

Really feel the gratitude.

Don’t just write a few things down without really thinking about them.  Try and truly feel gratitude for it.  Feel the emotions as you write.  Feel good about what you have written.

Try and think about things as if you no longer had them, what would life be like.

It will help you realise you have a lot more to be grateful for than you think.  It also will help you to genuinely feel grateful for that blessing.  For example, if you no longer had access to running water to your home, what would life be like.  It would probably make life really hard.  Thinking about things like this helps us to really feel thankful that we have running water and also all the things that the water helps us do in our home.

Instead of just writing a one-word list, try and write in more detail about what you are grateful for.

For example, I could write that I am grateful for water OR I could write, I am grateful for water BECAUSE it hydrates me, it helps me clean myself and my clothing, it energises me when I am near a beach or lake, it flows effortlessly from my taps in my home.  Always try and add a ‘BECAUSE’ to the thing you are writing about.
